Pennine Lancashire Festival of Food and Culture
The 4th Pennine Lancashire Festival of Food and Culture, which will be taking place from 17th August to 17th September this year. From gourmet short breaks, culinary canal cruises, opera and strawberries to steam train lunches, ale trails and medieval food markets; thousands of food lovers will experience gastronomic adventures across the county as the area celebrates its fantastic food and culture like never before.
Blackpool Illuminations 4 September - 8 November 2009
As the summer season draws to a close, Blackpool looks forward to long autumn nights bathed in light and colour. The Illuminations have been a major part of Blackpool’s attraction since 1879 when they were described as ‘Artificial Sunshine’ and have been a guiding light for visitors to the resort ever since. The brightest night of all in Blackpool is the Big Switch On, when thousands of people gather to witness the first illuminating night of the season, and the pulling of that famous switch.
Pendle Walking Festival
There will be free guided walks every day to suit walkers of all abilities, ranging from easy canalside walks to hard excursions on open access land. World Fireworks Championships
Top firework companies from around the globe will be invited to stage pyrotechnical displays, bringing an International flavour to Central Promenade during the opening weeks of Blackpool’s World Famous Illuminations season. They are set off from the North Pier and you can see them from all over the famous Blackpool Promenade.

CEV European Championship Tour Beach Volleyball(10 -13 Sept 2009)
The exciting event will take place on purpose-built competition courts on Blackpool's newly reconstructed St Chads Headland, on the promenade against the backdrop of Blackpool’s world-famous Illuminations. Lets hope the weather holds out and we get late sunny afternoons to enjoy this attraction.
Heritage Open Days
Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
Every year on four days in September buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors. It is a once-a-year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring to life local history and culture. Places include Blackpool's Grand theatre, Stanley Park, Blackpool Winter Gardens plus loads more places open for this special event.
